Decorah, Iowa - The St. Cloud State men's and women's swimming and diving teams cruised past Luther College in a dual meet on Friday, Nov. 6, with the Husky men winning 147-74 and the SCSU women defeating Luther College 165-57.

The St. Cloud State women won 11-of-12 events while the Husky men took home nine first place finishes out of 12 events.

Husky divers Luke Weber (Mankato) and Chris White (Rochester) were the highlight of the evening for St. Cloud State, as both rookies tabbed national qualifying marks on the one-meter board with scores of 316.80 and 287.45, respectively.  Weber bettered his season-high mark (295.60 on 10/30) by more than 20 points to garner first place against Luther College.

St. Cloud State’s women’s team tallied victories in all but one event against Luther College this evening. The 200 medley relay touched the wall in 1:50.98, marking a season-best time for SCSU. Cathy Haen (Eveleth) swam the first leg, Amber Alexander (Minot, N.D.) the second, Kirsten Koetter (Melrose) the third leg and Kelly Vieau (Delano) brought up the rear for the first place finish.

In all, the Husky women bettered season times in six events tonight, including the 200 medley relay, the 1000 free, the 200 free, the 200 IM, one-meter diving and the 100 fly.

Joe Palmersten crushed his previous time of 10:26.48 this season in the 1000 free on Oct. 31, touching the wall today in 10:21.61 for first place honors. The St. Cloud native also improved his time in the 500 free by over nine seconds, garnering a top finish with a time of 5:02.09. Of note, last weekend Palmersten swam the 500 free in 5:11.47 on Oct. 31.

The SCSU men’s team improved season-high times in eight events this evening to gain the victory over Luther College.

Head Coach Jeff Hegle’s squad has now totaled two national qualifying student-athletes in Chris White and Luke Weber in 2009-10.
