Swimming fans packed SCSU's Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center on Halloween for its double dual against UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire.

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men’s and women’s swimming squad hosted UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire in a double dual meet on Saturday, Oct. 31, at SCSU’s Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center.

The Husky women were spectacular once again in the pool, cruising past the two Wisconsin schools with a 219-80 victory over UW-Stevens Point and a 199-100 win over UW-Eau Claire.

SCSU’s men’s squad fell short to UW-Stevens Point by a score of 114-182, and charted a convincing 208-88 win over UW-Eau Claire.

The SCSU women posted 10 victories enroute to the double dual win and also placed four second place finishes in the process. Senior Katie Brueggemann (Grafton, Wis.) highlighted the day for the Huskies, posting two individual wins in the 100 breast (1:09.36) and 200 breast (2:28.87).

The Husky men garnered three first place finishes and five second place marks on the day. Joe Palmersten, a junior from St. Cloud, touched the wall at 10:26.48 to place first in the 1000 yard freestyle. In the 200 free, SCSU’s Kyle Cordry (Las Cruces, N.M.) took home top honors in a time of 1:45.88. The third first place finish for the Husky men was in the 200 fly, as Joe Spann (North Pole, Alaska) completed the race in 2:02.01.

On Friday evening, Oct. 30,  in Eau Claire, Wis., the St. Cloud State diving team won all four diving events against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in a double dual meet at the McPhee Physical Education Center.

First year diver Luke Weber (Mankato) won both the men’s one-meter dive with a final score of 295.60 and the three-meter dive after posting a 265.5 score. Weber’s score on the one-meter makes him the first Husky to qualify for nationals this season.

On the women’s side, junior Cassi Mrozek (Inver Grove Heights) won the one-meter with a score of 216.80, while sophomore Ali Tracy (Minot, N.D.) took won the three-meter dive with a final score of 249.75.

St. Cloud State men’s and women’s swimming and diving will continue action on Friday, Nov. 6, as the Huskies head to Luther College for a dual meet.
