The Kirsten Koetter Story

2010-11: Qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships in both the 100 fly and 100 free events…set a new school record in the 100 fly with a time of :55.97, good for an All-American Honorable Mention 9th place finish…also charted All-American Honorable Mention status in the 100 free, touching the wall in :51.36 (13th place)…on Nov. 6, Koetter became the new school record holder in the 50 fly with a time of :26.45…a College Swimming Coaches Association of American Academic All-American…charted national B-cut times in the 50 free (:23.44), 100 free (:53.14) and 100 fly (:56.78)…competed in four individual events during her junior stint (50 free, 100 free, 50 fly, 100 fly), recording top team times in all four events…also swam a leg on the 200 free relay, 400 free relay and 200 medley relay….earned a 2011 Midwestern Collegiate Conference title in the 50 free and 100 fly…also sprinted the first leg on the women’s 200 free relay which won a conference championship in February…totaled 19 individual victories during her junior campaign, which ranked second in the women’s squad.

2009-10: Koetter’s season highs include 0:23.78 50-free and 0:53.64 100-free (400 relay) times, while setting a pool record during a 50-freestyle (0:24.34/Minnesota State)...She earned All-American honors as part of the 200-freestyle relay team and gained All-American Honorable Mention on the 400-free relay and 400-medley relay team’s...voted the team's Co-Most Valuable Swimmer...garnered top honors at the 2010 Midwestern Collegiate Championships in the 50 free, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

2008-09: First Year…had a standout rookie season, becoming a two-time All-American after placing fourth in the 200 free relay (1:34.18) and fifth in the 200 medley relay (1:44.16) at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships…named the NSIC Freshman of the Year after garnering first place finishes in the 50 free (23.57) and the 100 fly (56.87) at the Northern Sun Championships…qualified for nationals in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 200 free relay and the 400 free relay…an All-American Honorable Mention in the 400 free relay, placing ninth in a time of 3:28.32…tallied 18 first place finishes during her first collegiate stint…the school record holder in the 50 free (:23.40), the 200 free relay (1:34.18), the 400 free relay (3:28.32) and the 200 medley relay (1:44.16)…set a new pool record at MSU Moorhead (Nemzek Pool) on Oct. 17 in the 50 free (25.20)…member of the 200 free relay that set a new pool record at MSU Moorhead (Nemzek Pool) on Oct. 18 (1:40.01) and a new pool record at Carthage College (Tarble Pool) on Dec. 5…swam on the 400 free relay that charted a new pool record at MSU Moorhead (Nemzek Pool) on Oct. 17 (3:41.59)…set a new meet record at the TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic on Dec. 5 in the 200 free (1:35.81)…voted team’s Freshman of the Year.

Before SCSU: 2008 graduate of Melrose High School…six-time letter winner…All-State swimmer…2007 Section 6A Swimmer of the Year…at the 2007 state championship meet she placed sixth in the 100 butterfly, ninth in the 50 free, 10th in the 400 free relay, and 11th in the 200 free relay…won team conference titles in 2006 and 2007…coached by Nathan Meyer…All-Conference athlete in track where she lettered twice…a three-time letter winner in danceline...lists greatest sports thrill as making it to state from ninth grade on and swimming the 100 fly in under a minute for the first time.

Personal: Daughter of Al and Tammy Koetter of Melrose, Minn. … majoring in mass communications at SCSU.
