The Napoleon Howell Story

2010-11: Voted team’s Most Valuable Swimmer and Co-Freshman of the Year in 2010-11… Howell was spectacular in the lanes this year for St. Cloud State… originally from St. Augustine, Trinidad, Howell earned top honors at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference Championships in the 200 breast with a time of 2:07.75, which was enough for a new school record…Howell was also a member of the men’s 200 medley relay that set a new school mark on Feb. 19 with a time of 1:32.94… a College Swimming Coaches Association of American Academic All-American Honorable Mention…posted national B-cut times in the 100 breast (:57.70) and 200 breast (2:07.75)…earned a conference title in the 200 breast…led the squad with 13 individual first place finishes…recorded the team’s top times of the season in the 50 breast (:26.46), 100 breast (:57.70) and 200 breast (2:07.75)…also competed on the men’s 400 medley relay, which sparked the Huskies with a top time of 3:26.82 at the MCC’s in February.

High School: Graduated from St. Mary’s Prep College in 2009…coached by Lara Littlepage…named Swimmer of the Year in 2008 for the Tidal Wave Aquatics (former club)…holds the National Open 18 and over record in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 29:56 (Trinidad and Tobago)…says winning the 100 breast a the 2010 Caribbean Islands Swimming Championships (CISC) in Havana Cuba with a time of 1:07.54 was his greatest sports thrill.

Personal: Son of the late Richard Howell and Annette Howell…says his mother has had the greatest influence on his career…lists Brendon Hanson as his favorite sports personality… placed first in his high school at the CAPE (Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination) History Unit 1 and Unit 2…enjoys hiking…plans to pursue a degree in business administration with a minor in political science.
