The Kyle Green Story
2008-09: Sophomore season … one of the Huskies’ most valuable swimmers … national qualifier who competed in eight meets throughout the season … earned Honorable Mention All-American honors on all five relays at the NCAA Championships … swam the third leg of the 200 free relay team that earned 12th place at the national championships … swam the first leg of the 13th place 200 medley relay (1:32.96), the fourth leg of the 15th place 400 free relay (3:03.23), the fourth leg of the 15th place 800 free relay (6:53.23), and the first leg of the 16th place 400 medley relay (3:25.84) that each set school records … competed individually in the 100 back at the NCAA’s, placing 24th with a personal best time of 51.57 … at the Northern Sun championships, placed third in the 100 back (52.73), fourth in the 200 IM (1:56.01) and fifth in the 200 back (1:55.32) … 200 back mark was a season best … three-time winner in 2008-09 … owner of the Huskies’ top-two times in the 200 back, the top-four times in the 100 back, and the top-six times in the 200 IM … had best meet in the IM on Dec. 5 & 6 at the Carthage Invite posting season highs in the 200 IM (1:53.61) and the 400 IM (4:13.89) … swam on the Northern Sun Champion 400 free relay team (3:03.86) that hit the national qualifier and clinched the meet win for the Huskies.
2007-08: Named NCC Freshman of the Year…took home four All-Conference honors in the 200 IM (third / 1:54.65), 400 IM (third / 4:10.79), 100 back (fourth / 52.83) and the 200 back (sixth / 2:15.65)...posted Husky best time in the 200 IM with a 1:53.48 mark and on the 400 medley relay (3:33.10)…won top spot in 100 back, 100 fly and 200 IM at regular season meets…shared top spot as a member of six relay teams.
HIGH SCHOOL: 2007 graduate of Bettendorf High School…coached by Mike Ahrens…won four letters in swimming and received All-American Consideration…broke 12 records in high school and was a four time state champion in the 100 and 200 back, and 200 and 400 freestyle relay…also garnered third place finish in the 200 free and received the Stewart Lansberry Award.
PERSONAL: Son of Gregory and Louise Guiney of Davenport, Iowa…lists his step-dad Gregory Guiney as the greatest influence on his career…says swimmer Michael Phelps is his favorite sports personality…lists his greatest sports thrill as swimming the 100 breast stroke and getting a best time and less than three minutes later breaking the 400 free relay record and winning state…also enjoys playing flag football and dodge ball…psychology major at SCSU.
