The Joe Spann Story

2008-09: Sophomore season … competed in nine meets during the season … swam the free and fly events with some appearances in the IM … also competed in four of the five relay events, which produced a pair of wins as a member of the 400 medley relay (3:38.30) on Jan. 16, and the 800 free relay (7:19.38) on Jan. 24 … twice on the season claimed individual wins in the 200 fly, with the first coming in the season opener on Oct. 25 (2:02.35) and the second coming on Jan. 17 … claimed third place honors in the 200 fly (1:56.89) at the Northern Sun Championships with a career best performance of 1:56.89 … posted a new career high in the 100 fly on Dec. 6 with a 52.86.

2007-08: Earned two All-Conference nods with fifth place finishes in the 100 (53.44) and 200 fly (1:58.40)…received Honorable Mention notice for the 1650 free (17:52.26)…sported the Huskies top time in the 200 fly with his performance in the NCC Championships…won three races on the year, touching the wall first against St. John’s in the 500 free (5:09.03) and Carleton in the 1000 free (10.35.54) and the 200 fly (2:03.57).

HIGH SCHOOL:  2007 graduate of North Pole High School…coached by Patty Flemming…four year letter winner on the swim team…named team captain and MVP…graduated in the top 10% of his class…won the Presidents award and was named student of the month.

PERSONAL:  Son of Joe and Claire Spann of North Pole, Alaska…says his greatest thrill is a new drop in his times…also enjoys snowmobiling, skiing, fishing, hunting, hiking, and camping…pre-med major at SCSU.
