The Cathy Haen Story
2008-09: Junior season…Became an All-American in the 200 medley relay, placing fifth at the 2009 NCAA Division II Championships after posting a time of 1:44.16…garnered two All-American Honorable Mention accolades in the 400 medley relay (10th place) and the 100 backstroke (12th)…gained the Northern Sun title in the 100 back, touching the wall in 57.17…qualified for nationals in the 50 free, 100 back, 200 back, 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay…posted 16 first place finishes in 2008-09…tabbed the team’s best marks of the season in the 50 back (28.20), 100 back (57.02) and 200 back (2:04.40), which are all new school records…also a member of the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay that charted new school records this season…tallied a new pool record at SCSU’s Aquatic Center on Oct. 18 in the 50 back (28.20)…member of the 200 medley relays that charted new pool records at MSU Moorhead (Nemzek Pool) and Carleton College (Thorpe Pool)…tabbed two new meet records this season, as a member of the 200 medley relay (TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic) and the 400 medley relay (TYR/CollegeSwimming.com Classic)…voted team’s Co-Most Improved and also named a team co-captain for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
2007-08: Sophomore season…set the SCSU record in the 100 back on 2/23 at the NCC Championships finishing in fourth place with a mark of 59.44 breaking her own school record of 59.50 set earlier in the season…100 back performance earned her All-Conference accolades…also at the NCC Championship meet set season highs in the 50 free (25.45) finishing 19th, the 200 back (2:14.63) coming 16th place and in the 200 medley relay (1:49.54) where the team touched the wall in sixth place…a winner on two occasions on the season with one being her first record breaking performance in the 100 back at the TRY/CollegeSwimming.com Classic on 11/30 and 12/1 where she took home top honors in the event with a 59.50…also at the TYR Classic, Haen helped earn relay victories in the 200 medley (1:49.58) and the 400 medley (4:01.54), with the 400 being a season best.
2006-07: First year...finished the 2006-07 season with top-20 NCC times in the 100 (7th) and 200 back.
HIGH SCHOOL : 2006 graduate of Eveleth-Gilbert High School in Eveleth, Minnesota...six-time letter winner in swimming...named to All-State and All-Section...named Section 7A Most Valuable Swimmer...letter winner in basketball and track.
PERSONAL: Parents are Tim and Juli Haen of Eveleth, Minnesota...computer science major...high school coach was Gordy Bodby.
