St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State’s head softball coach Paula U’Ren has announced the Leadership Council for the 2009-10 season.
The St. Cloud State softball team has a leadership council
that is selected by votes of each member of the team and the coaching
staff. Each class selects a member to represent their class and the
program. This model was employed two years ago and it allows for the
growth of the leaders on the team throughout all classes.
Head Coach Paula U’Ren commented on the captain selection process, “Leadership
is a learning process and by developing leadership skills in each class, it
promotes an opportunity for these young women to grow into a leadership and
accountability role, and also provides each class with a captain.”
The senior class will be represented by Kaity Strever (Laurel, Mont.) and Lizzy Dwyer (Kalispell, Mont.). “Kaity (Strever) and Lizzy (Dwyer) are without a doubt the leaders on our team and will be outstanding student-athletes to have on the Leadership Council,” said U’Ren.
The remaining council is made up of strong vocal leaders in juniors Heather Trobec (Sartell) and Emily Edgerton (Wausau, Wis.). “Both Heather (Trobec) and Emily (Edgerton) have done a great job of teaching our younger players what it means to be a Husky softball player and the responsibilities that come with it,” said U’Ren. “They both have great work ethic, which is needed to be a top program.”
Back for
her second season on the council, Brit Krieg (Hudson, Wis.) will represent the sophomore
class after sporting a stellar first collegiate season from the circle in 2009.
“Brit (Krieg) did a great job leading her class last season and she has a
bright future ahead of her at SCSU,” said U’Ren.
Mikayla Hogan (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) will round out the council, representing the first year class. “Mikayla (Hogan) is also representing our team in SAAC this year and will gain a lot of leadership experience this season,” said U’Ren.
"The Leadership Council is a great program for our student-athletes to be involved with,” said U’Ren. “The council allows each class to select a captain and the council also helps the members develop leadership and communication skills during their time here at St. Cloud State.”
St. Cloud State University, an NCAA Division II affiliate, is a member of the always rugged Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Founded in 1869, St. Cloud State University enrolls over 16,000 students, making it the second largest college in the state of Minnesota.
