SOFTBALL: Sign Up For Fundamental and Pitching Clinics

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State softball program has openings for its October Fundamental and Pitching Skills clinics to be held on Oct. 11, 2009, at Historic Selke Field.
These clinics are open to softball players ages 10-18. The pitching clinic will cover topics such as proper warm up, pre-practice/pre-game routines, pitching fundamental skills, pitching mechanics and speed training for pitchers.
The fundamental clinic will cover topics such as hitting techniques and mechanics, fielding and throwing skills and mechanics and player development techniques.
The cost for each session is $30 per player or $55 for both clinics. The pitching clinic will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and the fundamental clinic will follow from 1-3:30 p.m. at Selke Field (located off University and 12th Avenue SE).
Participants should bring a glove, water bottle, outdoor shoes, tennis shoes (for indoor site), helmet and a bat. Softball players, don't miss out on the opportunity to learn from SCSU's head coach Paula U'Ren and her staff and Husky players!
St. Cloud State’s head coach Paula U’Ren has an impressive 447-235 overall career mark at SCSU. In U'Ren's tenure the Huskies have qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament six times and have won the North Central Conference playoff championship three times (including the 2003 and 2004 NCC titles).
U’Ren has quite the accredited support staff. She is assisted by Erin Dickhausen, Meghan Ward, Jen Williams and Kelli Niess. Dickhausen finished her playing career last spring as one of the best softball players in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference history, twice earning NSIC Player of the Year honors and being named First Team All-NSIC all four years while at Southwest Minnesota State University.
A former All-American, Meghan Ward joins the St. Cloud State University coaching staff for the 2009-2010 season. A two-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference second baseman and the 2008 NSIC Pre-season Co-Player of the Year for the University of Mary Marauders, Ward brings knowledge, experience, and leadership to the Husky field.
Originally from Norfolk, Neb., Jen Williams (formally Jen Redlinger) is back at St. Cloud State as a volunteer assistant coach in 2009-10 after serving as a graduate assistant coach under Husky head coach Paula U’Ren from 2002-2004. Williams attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha and played softball under Coach Mary Yori from 1998-1999 and coach Jeanne Tostenson-Scarpello from 2000-2001. Williams was the starting centerfielder all four of her years at UNO and tallied All-North Central Conference honors and All-Region honors in 1999, 2000, and 2001.Williams gained All-American status in 2001 while helping her team to a 2001 National Championship season, finishing 54-6 overall.
Kelli Niess joined the Husky softball staff as a volunteer student coach in 2007-08. Niess is a 2007 product of Concordia College in Moorhead where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with degrees in political science and history. Niess was named the softball Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Rookie of the Year in 2004.
