SOFTBALL: SCSU’s Rookie Pitcher Brit Krieg Garners NSIC Weekly Honor
Tuesday, March 3, 2009
Brit Krieg |
St. Paul, Minn. – St. Cloud State University’s rookie pitcher Brit Krieg (Hudson, Wis.) was recently named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her young collegiate career.
Krieg tossed a no-hitter in a 4-0 game-two win over Northern State on Friday, Feb. 27, marking the first no-hitter of her collegiate stint. Just two days later, Krieg threw a perfect six innings straight against Bemidji State, but a leadoff single in the top of the seventh ruined her bid at a perfect game. Still, once on first, the Beaver runner was stranded as Krieg retired the next three batters in order to give the Huskies the 2-0 victory. The rookie went 3-1 on the weekend, striking out 13 opponents in 22.2 innings pitched while garnering a 1.85 ERA and her first two career shutouts.
Of note, Krieg is the first Husky softball player to chart an NSIC weekly honor in school history.

The Huskies, coached by 12th-year head coach Paula U’Ren, will head to sunny Florida for spring break to participate in the 2009 Rebel Spring Games from Mar. 7-11 in Orlando. The Huskies will play 10 games during their stint in Florida. St. Cloud State has won their last five of six games and are 6-13 overall and 0-0 in the NSIC.
