The Kelly Franks File
Before SCSU: The daughter of Billie Brahmstead, Kelly Franks has been coached by Tom Drohner at Stevens Point Area Senior High School for the past five years. A right-handed pitcher, Franks has earned four varsity letters and was named her team’s Newcomer of the Year in 2007. During her sophomore stint, Franks went 9-0 from the circle with a 0.510 earned run average to help lead the Panthers to a 2009 Wisconsin State Championship. That same season she struck out 101 opponents in 55.7 innings pitched and gave up just a small total of five runs and 29 hits.
Last season Franks put together an impressive 22-2 record during her junior season in 2010. She charted a career best 0.50 ERA and a school record 183 strikeouts in 154 innings pitched. In addition, Franks surrendered a mere 11 earned runs while garnering 14 shutouts and seven no-hitters.
Personal: Franks, who holds three school records at SPASH, enjoys reading, watching movies, participating in outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends during her free time. She plans to major in chemistry at St. Cloud State.
