SOCCER: Huskies Playoff Push Comes to an End

The Huskies were unable to get an edge on the Bulldogs for the third time this season, as Duluth took the season series 2-0-1. St. Cloud State ends its 2009 season with a 11-5-4 overall record, while going 9-3-2 in NSIC contests.
The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 29:40 mark after a handball was called on the Huskies. Reegan Lloyd sent the kick across net in front to Maria Leider, who headed her first goal of the season in the back right corner of the net to make it 1-0.
Duluth then came out in the second half and added a second goal five minutes in, as Brittany Brown scored the Bulldogs second header on a pass from Alex Paffrath.
St. Cloud State came back in a flash, scoring 31 seconds later to cut the lead in half at 2-1. Freshman Margie Jancik (Inver Grove Heights) scored her third goal of ths season as junior Lindsey Sather sent a pass out front that was misplayed by the Bulldog defender.
Jancik found herself alone and sent a shot into the back of the net for the Huskies only goal of the game.
As a team the Huskies outshot the Bulldogs 15-13 in the game, as senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb.) made seven saves in her final game in a St. Cloud State jersey.
Fellow seniors KaitlinKelly (West Allis, Wis.), Jenn Clifford (Blaine), and Chelsey Scheller (Maple Grove) all played in their final games in the Husky red and black.
The Bulldogs will move on to play the winner of Winona State and Minnesota State, who are playing at 3 p.m. today.
The NSIC Championship game will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Winona, Minn.
