SOCCER: Huskies Earn NSIC Honors - Heiberger Named Coach of the Year

Becky Heiberger was Named NSIC Coach of the Year |
St. Cloud, Minn. - After finishing third in the Northern Intercollegiate Conference with a 9-2-2 record, the St. Cloud State soccer team was rewarded Wednesday afternoon with six post-season conference awards.
Head Coach Becky Heiberger was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year as the Huskies finished above its pre-season coaches poll sixth place finish, ending the regular season with a 10-4-4 record.
In her second season with the Huskies, Heiberger is now 18-12-6 overall in her career at St. Cloud State and has now put together the only back-to-back winning seasons in school history.
The awards did not stop with Heiberger, as freshman Mary Morhardt (Gilbert, Ariz.) was named Co-Newcomer of the Year to go along with NSIC All-Conference second team honors.
Sophomore Alexandra Pafko (Blaine) was named NSIC All-Conference first team after an eight goal, eight assist season in conference play. She ended the season in tie for fourth place with 24 points on the season.
Senior Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb.) and junior Gabrielle Najera (Longmont, Ill.) both earned NSIC All-Conference third team honors after Kelly won nine conference games and was second in the conference with a .877 save percentage, while Najera posted a 12 point, 24 shot season for the Huskies.
Sophomore Lindsey Sather (Eden Prairie) also received accolades on Wednesday, as she was named NSIC All-Conference Honorable Mention after a five-goal three-assist season.
Lauren Sturdivant of Winona State earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Minnesota Duluth’s Hannah Bengtson was named Defensive Player of the Year. Minnesota State Moorhead’s Jordyn Wallenborn was named Co-Newcomer of the Year.
St. Cloud State looks to continue its successful season, as the Huskies host the Bemidji State Beavers at 7 p.m. at Husky Stadium.
