Alexandra Pafko scored the game winning goal in a 2-1 win over Bemidji State earlier in the season.

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women’s soccer team is hosting its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference playoff game after finishing in third place in regular season play.

The Huskies (10-4-4, 9-2-2 NSIC) will be hosting the No. 6 seed Bemidji State Beavers (11-6-1, 7-5-1 NSIC) in a 7 p.m. match up Wednesday night at Husky Stadium.

Both teams battled earlier in the season, with the Huskies coming out on top 2-1 on the road. Sophomore Chelsey Permenter (Omaha, Neb.) scored the first goal of the game before the Beavers tied it up at 1-1 heading into halftime. 

At the 68:29 mark, sophomore Alexandra Pafko (Blain) was able to score the game-winner to help the Huskies earn its second road win of the season.

The winner of Wednesday’s game, will move on to play the winner of the match up between the No. 2 seed Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs and the No. 7 seed Northern State on Friday afternoon.

Huskies Win Season Finale

With 42 seconds left in double overtime, senior Jenn Clifford (Blaine) scored her second goal of the season to end the 2009 regular season with a 1-0 win over the Concordia University Friday night at Sea Foam Stadium.

St. Cloud State has now posted a double digit regular season win total for the second time in school history and its the Huskies’ most wins since the 1995 squad recorded 13. It is also the team’s best conference record since finishing third in the North Central Conference.

Senior Elizabeth Kelly made five saves in the game to record her fifth shutout of the season. She now is tied for second with four other former Huskies on the all-time regular season shutout list.

The Huskies set a school record with its eighth shutout of the season and have now won two overtime games in 2009.
