SOCCER: SCSU Rolls to 1-1 Tie at CSU-Pueblo

Senior keeper Elizabeth Kelly netted 10 saves in tie at CSU-Pueblo.

Pueblo, Colo. - The St. Cloud State University soccer team complete its western swing through Colorado on Sept. 6, with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Colorado State University-Pueblo.  The match, which was played in Pueblo, Colo., pushed SCSU's season record to 1-1-1 on the young season, while CSU-Pueblo moves to 0-2-1 in 2009.
 
Under overcast skies and a slight drizzle, CSU-P gained an early lead in the game with a goal by Jessa Cook at :45.  The lone assist on the play was set by Sarah Deffit.
 
The Huskies charged back to knot the score at 1-1 with a goal by sophomore Chelsey Permenter (Omaha, Neb./Ralson H.S.) at 35:49.  Junior Gabrielle Najera (Longmont, Colo.) added the single assist on the play, as she was playing back in her home state of Colorado.  The goal was Permenter's first of the season and her second career goal at SCSU.
 
SCSU was outshot 20-7 in the game, as senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb./Marian H.S.) was impressive in the nets with 10 saves in the game.
 
Next weekend, the Huskies will travel to the NSIC Soccer Festival in Sioux Falls, S.D.  On Sept. 11, the Huskies will battle Augustana at 4 p.m.  SCSU will conclude the weekend with a Noon game in Sioux Falls against Minnesota Duluth.  Both of these contests are considered non-conference games.
 
SCSU will be back home on Sept. 26 for a 1 p.m. game against Southwest Minnesota State at Husky Stadium.
