St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State soccer team put an exclamation point on the program's supporter weekend with a 1-0 win in the season opener over Southwest Minnesota State at home on Sunday, Aug. 30.
It took the Huskies just over 22 minutes to put the first goal of the season on the board, when Margie Jancik (Inver Grove Heights) and Jordan Doyle (Oswego, Ill.) assisted Lindsey Sather (Eden Prairie) for the game-winner.
Sather, who scored five goals last season, received the pass in front of the net and as she fought a Mustang defender off the ball she slid it passed SMSU goalkeeper Kendra Olchefske at the 22:52 mark for the only goal of the game.
Sather also led the team with three total shots in the game, with two coming on goal. Jessica Pafko (Blaine) had two shots on goal, while four other Husky players recorded a shot on goal.
As a team St. Cloud state had 14 total shots, while senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb.) made two saves in the game, as the Mustangs put up 11 total shots.
The Huskies will travel to Colorado next to play Colorado-Colorado Springs at 7 p.m. MT on Friday, Sept. 4.
