Bismarck, ND -- The University of Mary goal scored just over two minutes into the game held and the Marauders went on to defeat St. Cloud State University 1-0 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match Saturday at the Bismarck Community Bowl in Bismarck, ND.
University of Mary's Megan Wilson scored at the 42:40 mark of the first half on a throw in and Alyssa Deutscher assisted for the only score of the game. The Marauders out shot the Huskies 20-10 and scored on the first shot of the game.
St. Cloud State junior goalkeeper Kaitlin Kelly (West Allis, WI) had ten saves in the match. Sophomore Gabby Najera (Longmont, CO) had a team high three shots on goal for the Huskies.
"We gave our best effort today, and I'm really proud of our effort, but it's productivity that wins games, and we just didn't produce enough today," said Husky first year coach Becky Heiberger.
St. Cloud State is 7-7-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the NSIC. The Huskies will play at Northern State University Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Aberdeen, SD. The University of Mary improves to 9-8 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC and are ranked tenth in the region.
