Amy Lindstrom and the Huskies were stuck playing catch up with third ranked Winona State this afternnon, and fell by the 3-0 score.

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State soccer team hosted league leading Winona State (14-1-0, 9-0-0) in Husky Stadium this afternoon, Oct. 19, putting a wrap on Homecoming week at SCSU.  After coming out of the intermission with a 1-0 lead, the Warriors controlled the game in the second half, and added a pair of goals on their way to the 3-0 win.

St. Cloud State (7-6-1, 5-4-1) posted their first winless weekend of the season with the loss today after tying Upper Iowa yesterday.  It is also the first time this season the Huskies have been held without a goal in back-to-back games.

The Huskies weren’t without their chances though, as they took 15 shots in the game, and forced the WSU goal keeper to make some big-time saves.  Late in the first half, with the Huskies trailing 1-0, Amy Lindstrom (Fridley, Minn.) fired off a shot through a pack of players the bounced off the right side post, for one of the Huskies best scoring chances.  The shots were nearly even in the first half with WSU holding the slight edge 11-10.

KaitlinKelly (West Allis, Wis.) got her first start of the season it the net today and the only first half goal she allowed came off a shot from nearly 40 yards downfield that she just couldn’t catch up with.

After the break, Winona State wasted little time before going up 2-0 as they scored at the 52:54 mark to extend their lead.  The Warriors final goal came at 64:41, from near the top of the penalty box.  WSU was in control for much of the second half and outshot the Huskies 12-5 in the period.

With the shutout, Winona State was able to extend their streak of scoreless games that dates back a month to Sept. 19.   SCSU has still not lost back-to-back games since Aug 31 and Sept 10 and will look to continue that streak and rebound from today’s tough loss next weekend when they travel to U-Mary (8-8-0, 7-2-0) and Northern State (9-6-1, 5-3-1) on Oct. 25 and 26 respectively.
