St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State soccer team played 87:00 minutes of scoreless soccer in Husky Stadium today, Sept. 20, but games are 90:00 minutes long and at 87:01 visiting Augustana snuck a header into the top right corner of the goal for the game’s only points.
The Vikings Stephanie Goos sailed a corner kick into a mob of Huskies and Vikings, but it was Augie’s Jill Goodrich who jumped at just the right time and scored on a header when she slipped the ball just inside the left side of the goal.
The Huskies had players lined up in front of the net, but the ball was over their heads and by the time goalkeeper Elizabeth Kelly (Omaha, Neb.) could get over, the ball had already crossed the plane.
The Huskies weren’t without chances in the game as they took 20 shots in the match, and landed seven on goal. Sophomore Lindsey Sather led the charge with seven shots and two on net. Five different Huskies tallied a shot on goal in the contest.
The match was the first in the NSIC for St. Cloud State and Augustana, and their league records sit at 0-1 and 1-0 respectively. Overall on 2008 the Huskies fall below the .500 mark at 2-3, while Augustana extends their current winning streak to four, and improve their record to 4-1-1. Augustana has not allowed a goal for over 375 consecutive minutes of play.
SCSU will return to Husky Stadium tomorrow for another NSIC match when they host Wayne State (0-7-1) at 1:00 pm. The Wildcats fell 1-0 to Concordia-St. Paul this afternoon.
