Marquette, Mich. – The St. Cloud State soccer team was unable to complete the weekend sweep at the Wildcat Soccer Invite as they fell 2-1 in overtime today, Aug. 31, to host Northern Michigan University. Each team finishes the weekend 1-1 as the Huskies beat Minnesota Duluth yesterday, and the Wildcats get the win today after falling Bemidji State, 1-0, yesterday.
Over 60 minutes went by before the game saw its first point. Northern Michigan broke the scoreless tie when Ashley DeKeyser found the back of the net for an unassisted goal at the 61:59 mark.
The Huskies would not trail for long, however, as sophomore Lindsey Sather (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tied the score at one apiece with an unassisted goal of her own at 65:51. Sather led the Huskies in scoring in her first year in 2007.

“We gave up some goals we shouldn’t have today”, head coach Becky Heiberger said after the game, “but we’ll learn from it, and we’ll be better for it.”
SCSU is now 1-1 on the young 2008 season and is off until they open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a Wednesday afternoon road game at Concordia-St. Paul on Sept. 10 at 4:00 pm. CSP was 5-14-2 in 2007 and was picked 11th in the NSIC preseason poll.
