NORDIC SKI: Huskies Place Ninth at NCAA Regional

The St. Cloud State University nordic ski team completed its 2009 season with a ninth place showing at the 2009 NCAA Central Region Ski Championships, which were held at the Michigan Tech Nordic Trails in Houghton, Mich. on Feb. 28 and March 1.
The Huskies notched a total of 59 team points, while Northern Michigan rolled to the team title at the meet with 183 points over the two days. The remainder of the field include Alaska (163), Michigan Tech (152), UW-Green Bay (130), Gustavus Adolphus (124), St. Benedict's (105), St. Scholastica (87), St. Olaf (75), SCSU (59) and Northland (24).
In the final day of competition, the athletes competed in a 10K freestyle race on the trails at MTU. Alaska's Julia Pierson won the race with a time of 33:17.1. The Huskies' top finisher was Jenny Beckman, who placed 35th with a time of 38:18.3. SCSU's Diane Vezendy placed 40th at 39:28.4 and teammate Mariah Featherly placed 47th in the race at 40:43.4. SCSU's Amy Peterson placed 50th at 41:29.5, Elizbeth Willis placed 54th at 42:46.6 and Katelyn Prow placed 57th at 44:12.3 in the race.
