NORDIC SKI: SCSU Places 8th at CCSA Championships

Camp Ripley, Minn. - The St. Cloud State nordic ski team placed eighth at the 2009 Central Collegiate Ski Championships, which was held on the trails at Camp Ripley, Minn. The Huskies completed the two-day event with 64 points, while Northern Michigan brought home the team title with 187 points.
The remainder of the field was completed by Alaska (162), Michigan Tech (152), Gustavus Adolphus (134), UW-Green Bay (132), St. Ben's (111), St. Scholastica (77), SCSU (64), St. Olaf (58) and Northland (25).
The race on Feb. 15 consisted of a 15K freestyle event, which was won by Laura Dewitt of Northern Michigan with a time of 42:32. SCSU's top racer was Jenny Beckman with a 35th place time of 46:44. Diane Vezendy of SCSU placed 39th in the race with a time of 47:27. Teammate Amy Peterson posted a 43rd place finish in a time of 49:27, while Christina Ringsmuth placed 44th with a time of 49:58. SCSU's Mariah Featherly was 53rd in the freestyle race at 51:39, Elizabeth Willis was 55th at 53:19 and Katelyn Prow placed 59th with a time of 57:35.
The Huskies' season will continue on Feb.28-March 1 with a trip to Houghton, Mich. for the NCAA Regional Championships.
