NORDIC SKI: Huskies in 8th Place After Classic Race

Little Falls, Minn. — St. Cloud State University stands in eighth place at the Central Collegiate Ski Association Nordic SKi meet on Feb. 14. The Huskies captured 32 points in the women's 5K classic race, which was held at Camp Ripley near Little Falls, Minn. The championship will conclude with freestyle competition on Feb. 15.
Nortern Michigan leads the group after the first day with 91 points, while Alaska is second at 81. Michigan Tech (79), UW-Green Bay (66), Gustavus Adolphus (66), St. Ben's (54), St. Scholastica (39), SCSU (32), St. Olaf (31) and Northland (12) complete the field after the classic race.
Northern Michigan's Marie Helen Soderman skied to victory on Saturday in a women's 5-kilometer classic technique race at Camp Ripley that served as an NCAA qualifier for the Central Collegiate Ski Association. Soderman claimed the race in 15 minutes, 15 seconds. Theresia Schnurr, a freshman at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, was second in 15:28 while Carolyn Freeman of Wisconsin-Green Bay (15:38) edged NMU's Laura Dewitt (also 15:38) for third place.
SCSU was led by Diane Vezendy with a 37th place time of 18:19. Amy Peterson was 39th in the classic race at 18:26, and Mariah Featherly placed 42nd at 18:47. Teammate Jenny Beckman added a 48th place time of 19:30 and Christina Ringsmuth placed 53rd at 20:10. The Husky contingent was completed by Elizabeth Willis (59th/21:28) and Katelyn Prow (60th/21:49).\
