NORDIC SKI: SCSU Competes at Central USAA Opener

Ironwood, Mich. - The St. Cloud State University nordic ski team competed at the Grand View XC Ski races on Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14. The races were held on the Wolverine Ski Trails in Ironwood, Mich.
No team scores were kept at this meet, which featured a 5K race for the field of 113 athletes on Dec. 13. Laura DeWitt, an unattached skier placed first in the race with a time of 14:22.3. The top St. Cloud State athlete in the race was Mariah Featherly, who placed 50th overall with a time of 16:45.1.
She was followed on the track by SCSU's Diane Vezendy, who placed 56th overall with a time of 17:03.9. Teammate Jenny Beckman placed 58th at 17:08.4, and Elizabeth Willis was 81st at 18:36.1. The remainder of the SCSU contingent at the meet included Christina Ringsmuth (87th/19:20.3), Katelyn Prow (95th/20:30.6) and Elizabeth Camp (108th/26:47.4).
To complete the weekend, the SCSU squad competed in the Classic 10K race on Dec. 14. Marie-helen Soderman was the top athlete in the overall race with a first place time of 32:56.1. For the Huskies, Featherly led the squad in the Classic Race with a 25th place time of 36:31.6.
Beckman placed 41st in the race with a time of 38:02.2, while Vezendy placed 43rd at 38:09.6. SCSU's Amy Peterson added a 57th place time of 39:46.1 in the overall standings, while Ringsmuth was 66th with a time of 42:25.3. Willis rounded out the group with a 69th place time of 44:56.6.
St. Cloud State will continue its season on Jan. 3-8, with a trip to Anchorage, Alaska for the U.S. National Championships.
