NORDIC SKI: Huskies Open 2008-09 Season

SCSU Nordic Ski Opened up the 2008-09 Season on Nov. 24. |
The St. Cloud State University nordic ski team opened its 2008-09 season on Nov. 24, at the Whitman-SCSU Sprint Invitational in West Yellowstone, Mont. The race was held at an elevation of 7,500 feet on the South Plateau course.
In the qualification round, Jenny Beckman led the Huskies with a sixth place time of 4:00. She was followed by Diane Vezendy in seventh place at seventh place. In eighth place, SCSU's Mariah Featherly finished at 4:06, while Amy Peterson was 10th at 4:10. Beth Camp completed the SCSU squad with a 12th place time of 6:22. Whitman's Kira Peterson was the top finisher in the qualification race at 3:46.
Based on their finishes in the qualification race, the athletes were divided into groups of three for the sprint heats. Whitman's Kira Peterson placed first in Group A, while Beckman placed third in Group B for the Huskies - which put her in sixth place overall for the day.
Venzendy placed second in Group C (eighth overall) and Featherly was third in Group C (ninth overall). In Group D, SCSU's Amy Peterson placed first (10th overall) and Camp was third in Group D (12th overall).
The Huskies will continue with races at West Yellowstone throughout the week.
