SCSU Competes at NCAA Central Regional

In action at the 2008 NCAA Central Regional Championship, the St. Cloud State University nordic ski team placed 10th in the first day of competition on Feb. 16. The championships are being held at Giant's Ridge Ski Area in Biwabik, Minn.
In the 5K freestyle portion of the championships, Northern Michigan placed first with 82 points, while Gustavus Adolphus was second at 72. Alaska Fairbanks was third at 68, followed by UW-Green Bay (55), Michigan Tech (49), St. Benedict (44), St. Scholastica (32), St. Olaf (28), Northland (19) and SCSU (15).
SCSU's Diane Vezendy placed 30th overall with a time of 18:12.7, to lead the Huskies. Jenny Beckman placed 42nd with a time of 18:51.2, Mariah Featherly was 45th at 19:05.1, and Emily Simak was 46th at 19:13.7.
Amy Peterson placed 49th overall at 20:03.6, followed by SCSU's Ashley Scherping in 50th (20:10.0), Elizabeth Willis in 51st (20:45.6) and Katelyn Prow in 52nd place (20:51.8). SCSU's Claire Williams completed the field in 55th at 22:31.5. The championship will complete on Feb. 17.
