SCSU Nordic Ski Places 5th at Minnesota Championships

Gustavus Adolphus was the meet champion with 18 points, while St. Benedict, St. Scholastica and St. Olaf placed second with 10 points apiece. St. Cloud State completed the field in fifth place with seven points in the race which was a combined 5K skate and 5K classic format (athletes were paired in a "relay" type of race).
Gustvaus' Laura Edlund and Sarah Willis were tops in the race with a combined time of 54:41. SCSU's team of freshmen Diane Vezendy (Richland, N.Y.) and Mariah Featherly (Houghton, Mich.) led the Huskies with a sixth place time of 1:00.35 on the course.
SCSU freshmen Jenny Beckman (Maple Grove) and Amy Peterson (Chaska) placed 10th overall with a combined time of 1:03.16, while freshmen Ashley Scherping (Little Falls) and Emily Simak (Hayward, Wis.) placed 13th at 1:07.23. To complete the field, freshman Elizabeth Willis (Mounds View) and sophomore Katelyn Prow (Sauk Rapids-Rice) placed 15th at 1:11.48.
The Huskies will continue their season on Feb. 16-17, with a trip to the NCAA Regional at the Giant’s Ridge Ski Complex in Biwabik, Minn. This will be the fourth and final CCSA/NCAA qualifying race of the 2007-08 season for the Huskies.
