THIS WEEKS’ SERIES: St. Cloud State continues home action with a two-game tilt against No. 5-ranked Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7. Both games are slated for 7:07 p.m. in the National Hockey Center.

GIESEN VS. UMD: SCSU’s head coach Jeff Giesen is 3-14-1 all-time against Minnesota Duluth.

THE SERIES: Minnesota Duluth leads the all-time series over St. Cloud State, 36-8-2, dating back to Nov. 5, 1999.
EARLIER THIS SEASON AGAINST THE BULLDOGS: St. Cloud State was swept earlier this season by Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 10-11, by scores of 5-3 and 2-0 at the DECC.
HOGAN VS BULLDOGS: Senior forward Caitlin Hogan (Oakdale) was the lone Husky to score on the weekend against Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 10-11, charting St. Cloud State’s first hat trick (Oct. 10) since senior Holly Roberts (St. Cloud) netted three goals against Vermont back on November 4, 2006. Hogan’s three goals on Saturday night (Oct. 10) were the most ever in a game for the team alternate captain.
ALUMNI GAME SCHEDULED: The St. Cloud State University women’s hockey program has scheduled its third annual Alumni Game for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 4:15 pm-5:15 pm at the National Hockey Center. For complete information, click here.
FREE YOUTH CLINIC AVAILABLE: The St. Cloud State University women’s hockey program will offer a free youth hockey clinic for all girls age 14 and under on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on the main rink at the St. Cloud State’s National Hockey Center.
HUSKIES ON THE BOARD: St. Cloud State women’s hockey (2-6-0, 1-5-0 WCHA) garnered a series split against the University of North Dakota on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31, in the National Hockey Center. UND edged the Huskies in overtime 5-4 in the first game of the tilt and the Huskies returned the following afternoon to garner their first WCHA victory of the season 3-2 over UND and earn the series split.
SIX IS BLISS: Senior forward Meaghan Pezon erupted for two goals and four helpers in the series against UND. Pezon tabbed two goals and two assists in the first game of the tilt, marking a new personal career-high points total in a single game for the Eden Prairie native.
GOLDEN NUMBER IS SIX: Senior forward Caitlin Hogan (Oakdale) also added four points (2g, 2a) on the weekend against UND, bringing her career points total to 94 (41g, 53a). Hogan continues to rank fourth all-time at SCSU in scoring, and quests to become just the second Husky to total 100 career points in the Cardinal and Black.
POWER PLAY IS BACK: The Huskies snapped an 0-of-35 drought on the power play on Friday, Oct. 10, against UND with a power play goal from senior captain Felicia Nelson (St. Paul). SCSU went 4-of-11 on the power play against North Dakota, good for a .364 conversion percentage.
FOUR MORE FOR NELSON: Felicia Nelson (St. Paul) tallied three goals on the weekend against North Dakota and added a helper for four points. Nelson has 26 goals and 24 assists in 76 games played at SCSU.
HOLLY THE HELPER: Holly Roberts (St. Cloud) continued her helping ways against UND, dishing out three assists to bring her season total to six assists in eight games played. Roberts currently ranks seventh all-time at SCSU with 83 career points (33g, 50a) in the Cardinal and Black.
VICTORY FOR VANDENAKKER: Tayler VanDenakker (Winnipeg, Manitoba) earned her first win of the season in goal with 22 saves to her credit on Saturday (Oct. 31) against North Dakota. VanDenakker’s season record stands at 1-3-0. Junior goalie Ashley Nixon (Blaine) backstopped the Huskies with 23 saves in 62:26 minutes of ice time on Friday night (Oct. 30) against UND, giving up five goals in the process as her season mark fell to 1-3-0 overall.
SCSU’s HEAD COACH JEFF GIESEN: Jeff “Goose” Giesen is in his fourth season at the helm of Husky Hockey in 2009-10 and became SCSU’s all-time winningest women’s hockey coach, garnering his 46th career win on Friday, Oct. 2, against Niagara in the Nat’l Hockey Center. A native of Blaine, Minn., Giesen is the third head coach since the inception of the women’s program in 1998. Giesen tallied his first career victory against Robert Morris on Sept. 29, 2006, with a 4-0 shutout in the NHC. Giesen’s career coaching record stands at 47-57-16 in three seasons along with a 30-48-12 mark in the ever grueling WCHA. A 1993 graduate of St. Cloud State University and a true student of the game, Coach Giesen and his wife Karla reside in St. Cloud, Minn.
ASSISTING IN 2009-10: Jeff Giesen is assisted by Jennifer Kranz and Jason Johnson in 2009-10. Ian Andersen is serving as the volunteer goaltending coach while former Husky standout Brita Schroeder (2005-09) is serving as the student assistant coach this season.

HEARING THE HUSKIES: SCSU women’s hockey action will be heard live on KVSC 88.1 FM this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 6-7, as well as streamed live at www.kvsc.org for the home series against UMD in the NHC. On Friday, KVSC’s Matt Bishop will be providing the play-by-play and KVSC’s Joe Clemence will be doing color commentary. Zack Fisch will be also be calling the plays from ice side. On Saturday, KVSC’s Matt Bishop will provide the play-by-play, Eric Hawkins will be doing the color, and Joe Clemence will give the ice side commentary.
