Minneapolis, Minn. -- In front of an announced crowd of 1,176 at Ridder Arena, the St. Cloud State Huskies (1-5-0, 0-4-0 WCHA) were shutout by the No. 2-ranked Minnesota Gophers (8-0-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) by a score of 7-0 on Saturday, Oct. 24. With the win, the Gophers completed the home-and-home series sweep to stay undefeated in 2009-10.

Sophomore goaltender Tayler VanDenakker (Winnipeg, Manitoba) earned the start between the pipes this afternoon and charted 13 saves and four goals against in the first period before junior goalie Ashley Nixon (Blaine) came in for VanDenakker's relief. VanDenakker posted 13 saves in the loss, falling to 0-3-0 on the season.

The Gophers applied the same pressure to Nixon, as Nixon backstopped the Huskies with 13 saves and three goals against in 41:46 minutes of ice time.

Minnesota cracked the scoreboard at the 7:32 mark of the first period and never looked back, scoring four goals in the first frame, two more in the second and one goal in the third and final period.

St. Cloud State’s woes continue on the power play as the Huskies have been held scoreless in their last 35 straight power play opportunities.

Senior captain Felicia Nelson (St. Paul) led the way for the Huskies, firing off four shots on net, while senior Holly Roberts (St. Cloud) and rookie Alex Nelson (Andover) each added three shots in the game.

Minnesota out-shot St. Cloud State 33-21. On the power play, SCSU was 0-of-5 while Minnesota went 4-of-7.

Minnesota continues to lead the all-time series over St. Cloud State, 41-2-1, dating back to Jan. 9, 1999.

St. Cloud State, who looks to snap a five-game slide, will return home to the National Hockey Center to play host to the University of North Dakota on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 30-31. Game times are slated for 7:07 pm and 2:07 pm in the NHC.
