The Abby Ness File
Before SCSU: Abby Ness hails from Roseau, which is a town rich in hockey tradition. Coached by Brian Bergstrom at Roseau High School, Ness is a three-sport standout athlete for the Rams. Standing 5’6” at center, Ness helped lead her high school squad to a third place finish at the Minnesota State Girls’ Hockey Tournament in 2007 and 2008. For her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament team. A four-time letterwinner for the Rams, Ness has charted All-State honors as well as team Most Valuable Player accolades in hockey.
St. Cloud State's former assistant women's hockey coach Jennifer Kranz (2006-11), along with future Husky Abby Ness (Roseau, Minn.), were members of the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team which captured the gold medal at the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's U18 Championship on Saturday, Jan. 8, with a 5-2 win over Canada at Stora Mossen Arena. Team USA finished the tournament undefeated with a 5-0-0-0 record to claim its third world title in four years.
Personal: Ness also excelled in tennis and golf at RHS. She has lettered six times in tennis and has appeared at the Minnesota State Tournament four times in her prep career. She has also earned three Minnesota State Tournament appearances in golf. The daughter of Jay and Kris Ness, Abby is a member of the National Honor Society and enjoys taking part in lake activities.
