St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (1-2-2, 0-0-1 WCHA) gained its first point of the WCHA season with a 3-3 overtime decision against #14/18 Minnesota Duluth (3-1-1, 2-0-1 WCHA) on Friday, Oct. 23 at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. The Huskies trailed 2-1 at the end of the first period, before they rallied with a pair of second period goals to gain the tie.  This marked the Huskies' third overtime game of the season, with the Huskies owning a 0-1-2 record in OT this season.

UMD opened the game's scoring at 4:42 of the first period with Justine Fontaine's seventh goal of the season.  He scored with power play helpers from Mike Connolly and Brady Hjelle.

The Huskies then tied the game at 13:01 of the first period with freshman forward Ben Hanowski's (Little Falls) first collegiate goal.  Sophomore forward and fellow Little Falls native Jared Festler provided the first assist, while junior forward Nick Oslund (Savage) had the second helper on the play.

UMD's Kyle Schmidt pushed his squad's lead to 2-1 with a goal at 19:19.  Drew Akins and Keegan Flaherty each had assists on the play.

In the second period, SCSU charged back to tied the game at 9:19 with an power play marker by Hanowski.  Senior defender Craig Gaudet and Oslund each had assists on the play.  UMD then regained the lead at 15:24 with a goal by Brady Lamb.  Schmidt and Akins each had assists on the play.

To finish the game's scoring, Festler earned the game tying goal at 17:25 of the third.  He had power play assists on the play by Oslund and sophomore forward Drew LeBlanc (Hermantown).

In the game, SCSU outshot the Bulldogs 44-33.  SCSU freshman goalie Mike Lee (Roseau) had 30 saves in the game, and Brady Hjelle added 41 saves for the Bulldogs.  Of note, this was the most shots for the Huskies since they hit 46 in a 4-4 tie against Minnesota State on March 7, 2009.

On the advantage, SCSU was 2-of-10 and UMD was 1-of-5.
