St. Cloud, Minn. -- (WATCH VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS AT END OF STORY) The St. Cloud State women's golf team placed second at the SCSU Husky Classic held Sunday and Monday at the St. Cloud Country Club. The University of Manitoba led by medalist Mindy Lichtman won the team title with a score of 658. The Huskies finished at 667.
St. Cloud State senior Lee Zutz (Red Lake Falls) placed third overall. Zutz shot a 79 on Sunday and followed up with an 83 on Monday for a score of 161, four shot back of the medalist, Mindy Lichtman who shot an 82-75 for a 157 total.
The Huskies had four players finish in the top ten. Sophomore Shaynna Mann (Dickinson, ND) tied for fifth with rounds of 84-83 for 167. Sophomore Emily Kerber (St. Cloud) placed seventh with a score of 83-86-169 and senior Nicole Peters (Cottage Grove) tied for eighth place with rounds of 87-83-170. Senior Lauren Haynie (Brooklyn Park) rounded out the first team scoring as she shot a 187 on rounds of 95-92.
The Huskies second team was led by senior Shannon Moran (Bloomington). Moran placed 12th with a 178 (92-86). First year Bailey Conrath (Elk River) was 16th with a 192 (100-92). Senior Kayla Nesvold (New Ulm) tied for 20th with a 197 (99-98). First year Katie Casper (Grand Rapids) was 25th with a 207 (106-101), and junior Michelle Heimbach (Duluth) was 26th with a 215 (112-103).
St. Cloud State will finish the fall season at the first of two NSIC Conference Tournaments to determine the conference championship. The first leg of the title chase will be placed on Oct. 10-11 at Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul.
