St. Cloud State University

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State women's golf team won the seven team St. Benedict Fall Classic played at Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids and Blackberry Ridge Golf Club in Sartell on Saturday and Sunday. The Huskies posted rounds of 334-341 for a 675 total and distanced themselves from second place University of St. Thomas as the Tommies posted a 346-345-691.

St. Cloud State put together strong back to back rounds over the weekend as the Huskies led by 12 strokes after the first day and increased the lead by 16 strokes for the win. 

Senior Lee Zutz (Red Lake Falls) finished second overall just two shots back of the individual champion. Zutz shot rounds of 79 and 82 for a 161. Amy Anderson of St. Thomas was the medalist after shooting rounds of 79-80 for a 159 total.

Sophomore Emily Kerber (St. Cloud) placed third overall after shooting rounds of 81-84 for a 165 total. Senior Nicole Peters (Cottage Grove) tied for ninth with scores of 88-88-176. Sophomore Shaynna Mann (Dickinson, ND) tied for 13th after shooting a 91-87=178. Senior Lauren Haynie (Brooklyn Park) rounded out the Huskies top five with a score of 86-98-184 to tie for 20th place.

St. Cloud State entered a second team the finished fifth overall. The White squad wass led by senior Kayla Nesvold (New Ulm). Nesvold toed for 16th place after shooting 91-91-182. Senior Krista Kalthoff (Albany) placed 24th with a score of 94-95-189. Senior Shannon Moran (Bloomington) was 25th with 95-96-191. Junior Michelle Heimbach (Dululth) placed 30th with rounds of 109-96-205, and first year Katie Casper (Grand Rapids) placed 31st with rounds of 108-104-212.

St. Cloud State will host the SCSU Husky Classic on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 4-5 at the St. Cloud Country Club. Joining the Huskies in the event will be Bemidji State, University of Manitoba, MSU Moorhead, and Northern State University.
