SCSU Husky Classic Medalist Evan Peters and Coach Judi Larkin

  

St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State senior Evan Peters (Glenwood) shot a final round 73 to finish one over par and claim medalist honors in the SCSU Husky Classic held Sunday and Monday at the St. Cloud Country Club. Minnesota State University, Mankato won the team title and the Huskies finished second overall.  Video interview is included in this story.

Minnesota State carded team scores of 296-293 for a two day total of 589. St. Cloud State tallied 298-300 for a total of 598, and Bemidji State finished third in the 15 team field with a two day total of 294-306=600. 

Peters shot even par in the first round and his steady second round gave him a one stroke win over Jordan Dockter of Minnesota State. Fellow teammate, sophomore Beau Anderson (Cottage Grove) was two strokes back and finished tied for third place with rounds of 71-76.

Other top finishes for the Huskies included junior Alex Dawald (Ortonville) who tied for 16th with rounds of 76-76. First year player Billy Barnhart (Cottage Grove) shot rounds of 81-75 to finish tied for 35th place. First year Charlie West (Victoria) tied for 53rd place with scores of 79-81.



The Huskies entered two teams in the tournament. The second team finished in fifth place and was led by sophomores Jordan Dickey (Faribault) and Taylor Schroeder (Nevis). Dickey shot rounds of 72-80 and Schroeder had rounds of 77-75. Junior Mitch Means (Brainerd) tallied a 77-77 to finish tied for 25th. Senior Mike Callahan (Hastings) shot an 84-76 to finish tied for 53rd and first year Chris Kelm (Sauk Rapids) placed 70th with an 81-83.

Two Huskies entered the tournament as individuals. First year Gordy Diekman (Alexandria) and junior Justin Nelson (Lakeville) tied for 22nd in the individual standings. Diekman shot 75-78 and Nelson 77-76.

The Huskies next competition is the NSIC/RMAC Crossover to be played at Wild Horse Golf Club in Gothenburg, Nebraska, on Sept. 27-28.
