Doug Patterson

Assistant Coach - Offensive Coordinator

Doug Patterson begins his first season as offensive line coach for the Huskies. He will also serve as the co-offensive coordinator with current wide receivers coach Steve Crutchley.

Patterson had been the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Minot State University since the 2000 season. He also served as the recruiting and summer camp coordinator. During his stint at Minot State, he coached three first team All-Americans and 13 all-conference offensive linemen. His offense set numerous school records including marks for total offense, single season individual passing, single season individual receiving, and single season individual rushing. In addition, the Beavers set DAC 10 conference records for total offense, passing yards and passing touchdowns.

Patterson is familiar with Husky football as he served as a graduate assistant tight ends coach for SCSU during the 1999 season, Randy Hedberg's first year as head coach of the Huskies. Prior to coaching with the Huskies, Patterson was the offensive line coach at Bishop Ryan High School in Minot for seven seasons.

A native of Souris, ND, Patterson has a bachelor's degree in social science from Minot State. He was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starter on the offensive line at Minot State from 1988 to 1991, and played for Coach Hedberg for two seasons.

Doug, his wife Kristi, and their three children, Kade, Camden, and Keegan reside in Sauk Rapids.

Steve Grimit

Steve GrimitAssistant Coach

The veteran of the Husky football coaching staff, Steve Grimit is in his 16th season with the SCSU staff as the defensive line coach. Grimit has helped establish SCSU as one of the nation's top Division II programs. 

Grimit joined the SCSU staff following four seasons at Valparaiso (IN) University. At Valparaiso, Grimit was the head wrestling coach and an assistant football coach in the NCAA Division I program. In football, he coached both the offensive and defensive lines. Grimit brings a great deal of experience to the football field. At Western Illinois, he co-captained the 1985 football squad and was a two-year letterman. Grimit was a member of the WIU football staff from 1986-1989.

As the SCSU wrestling coach, Grimit has enjoyed success during the past four seasons. In 1995, Grimit guided SCSU's Gene Hanemann to an NCAA Division II national title at 158-pounds. In 1996 and 1997, Grimit coached Andy Reigstad to consecutive runner-up finishes at the NCAA meet in the 150-pound category.

Grimit graduated from Western Illinois University in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Grimit and his wife Kim have two children, Nicole and James.

Rob Brandl
Assistant Coach Offensive Line

Rob Brandl will serve as a student assistant coach on the offensive line in 2007. Brandl has served in several capacities on the Husky coaching staff over the last three seasons. He is a 2003 graduate of St. Mary¹s High School in Sleepy Eye, Minn. Brandl is a physical education major with minors in special education and coaching. He was a 2005-06 Student Employee of the Year Nominee.

Charlie Cosgrove
Assistant Coach Defensive Line

A familiar face returns to Husky football this fall as former defensive standout Charlie Cosgrove joins the staff as a graduate assistant coach.Cosgrove was the 2005 NCC Most Valuable Defensive Lineman and First Team All-Conference pick. He was also named to the AFCA DII Coaches All-American First Team. His regional honors included being named to the Daktronics All-Northwest Region Team and the D2Football.com  Northwest All-Region Team. Cosgrove was a three-time All-NCC pick during his career. He set the career records for sacks with 23.5 and tackles for loss with 47.5. Cosgrove is a mass communications major at SCSU with an emphasis in broadcasting. Last season, he provided color commentary of Husky football games on KVSC 88.1 FM and 1450 AM KNSI.

Denny Honnold
Assistant Coach Defensive Backs

Denny Honnold is in his second year as a graduate assistant coach and will work with the defensive secondary. He is a 2003 graduate of Iowa State University with a degree in exercise and sports science. In 2005, he was an assistant football coach and resident assistant at Fort Scott Community College, Kansas. From 2003 to 2005, he was an assistant football coach and head resident at North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City, Iowa. In addition to his coaching skills, Honnold has a strong background in strength and conditioning as he was an intern in the Arizona State University Sport Enhancement program in the spring of 2003, and was an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Olympic sports at Iowa State from 2000 to 2003.

Reed Hoskins
Assistant Coach Running Backs

Reed Hoskins joins the Husky coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach with the running backs. Hoskins is a 2006 graduate of Wartburg College where he was the starting quarterback for three seasons and led the team to a 25-5 record and won three conference championships. Hoskins holds school records for passing yards in a game and season, completions in a season, touchdown¹s in a game, and total offense in a season. During the 2006 season, he was the wide receiver coach at North Carolina Wesleyan College and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator.

Kyle Kesselring
Assistant Coach Offensive Line

Kyle Kesselring is another new member of the Husky coaching staff in 2007. Kesselring is a 2006 graduate of the University of Iowa where he earned a double major in journalism and health sports studies. Kesselring was a long and short snapper for the University of Iowa football team and played on two Big Ten Championship teams and in four consecutive New Year¹s Day Bowl games. As a high school athlete, Kesselring competed in football and baseball, earning All-Area honors in football, and All-State, All-Conference, All-District, and All-Area honors in baseball. He spent the 2006 football season as the assistant freshman team football coach at Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, CA.

Marc Klatt
Assistant Coach Linebackers

Marc Klatt is making a return to SCSU as an assistant linebackers coach. Klatt was a Husky graduate assistant coach during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Since then he has held coaching positions at St. Francis High School as the defensive coordinator for two seasons followed by a stint as the assistant defensive coordinator at The College of New Jersey for one season. During the 2006 season, he was the head coach at St. Francis High School. Klatt has a bachelor¹s degree in criminology and a master¹s in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa.

Dan Lemke
Assistant Coach Defensive Backs

Dan Lemke joins the Husky staff as a defensive backs coach in 2007. Lemke is a graduate of Western Michigan University where he walked on to the football team, played four seasons, and was a letterwinner. He later served as a volunteer member of the strength and conditioning staff for the WMU football and hockey teams. Most recently, he has been a Lead Fitness/Personal Trainer for the YMCA. He also held positions as the Site Director, Director of Hockey Development, and Director of Explosive Weightlifting for Get Fast, Inc. He also was an intern int he Orthopedic Associates of Grand Rapids Sport Training Program. Lemke is a native of Maple Grove, Minn., and holds a bachelor's degree in exercise science.

Jeff Lynch
Assistant Coach Tight Ends

Jeff Lynch is a newcomer to the Husky coaching staff and will serve as the tight ends coach. Lynch is a 2006 graduate of Wartburg College where he played quarterback for one season and wide receiver for two. Last season, he was the wide receivers coach at Wartburg, and in 2005 served as a student assistant coach with the tight ends at his alma mater. He has also been a volunteer assistant coach at Johnston High School. Lynch has a degree in mathematics from Wartburg College.

Chris Schmitz
Assistant Coach Linebackers

Chris Schmitz is another former Husky football player turned coach. He played linebacker for the Huskies during the 2002 and 2004 seasons, missing 2003 because of his National Guard deployment to Bosnia. During the 2004 season, he notched 65 tackles which ranked him third on the team and was named second team All-NCC. Schmitz transferred to SCSU from Waldorf College where he played football for two seasons and was a first team academic all-region selection. The Sumner, Iowa, native has a bachelor¹s degree from SCSU and is pursuing a master¹s in sports science.
