CROSS COUNTRY: Huskies Complete 2009 Season at Region Championships

Wayne, Neb. -- The 2009 St. Cloud State University men's and women's cross country teams completed the 2009 season at the Division II Central Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Wayne Country Club. The men placed 11th with 318 points, while the women finished in 14th place with 393 points.

The Husky men improved from last year’s 13th place performance at regionals, finishing in 11th place with 318 points.
Sophomore Kyle Neumann (Andover) was the first Husky to cross the finish line in the 10,000 meter race, placing 39th in a time of 33:35.9. Junior Hady Cherif (Minneapolis) and sophomore Shamus O’Grady (Coon Rapids) completed the race close together, as Cherif was in 57th place (34:11.7) and O’Grady was in 62nd place (34:26.2).
Dan Allen, a Waite Park native, was the fourth St. Cloud State runner to complete the race, posting a 71st place mark in a time of 34:40.4. Jared Hicks, a rookie runner from Spearfish, S.D., was 90th (35.39.2) while sophomore Sean Gaskell (Esko) was the 97th runner to complete the regional race (36:05.9). The final Husky to score for SCSU was Maple Plain native Luke Jordan. The sophomore placed 103rd in a time of 36:22.8.
St. Cloud State’s women’s squad improved from an 18th place finish at the 2008 regional meet to finish in 14th place with 393 points.
Paula Marozas (Andover) was yet again the lead runner for the St. Cloud State women, finishing in 45th place with a time of 23:32.1. The junior completes the 2009 season as an All-NSIC Second Team recipient.
Sophomores Brittney Moffat (Coon Rapids) and Keely Rubash (New Lisbon, Wis.) crossed the finish line within three seconds of each other. Moffat came in a 70th place (24:19.1) while K. Rubash posted a 72nd place mark in 24:22.2. Nichelle Rubash (New Lisbon, Wis.) ran a solid race in 25:15.2, good for 102nd place.
Just over a second later, first year runner Stacey Kern (Osakis) posted a time of 25:16.4 for 104th place. The final two runners to complete the regional meet for St. Cloud State were sophomores Jackie Rich (Rogers) and Amanda Schilling (White Bear Lake). Rich placed 112th (25:41.0) while Schilling placed 119th (25:58.4).
The top six women's teams advancing to nationals are; Adams State,
Western State, Augustana (SD), Univ. of Mary, Metro State (Colo.), and
Minnesota Duluth. The top two individual women from non-qualifying
teams advancing to nationals are Sydney Laws from Colorado Mines and
Ali Paul from Minnesota State.
For the men, the top five teams heading to nationals are; Adams State,
Western State, Colorado Mines, Metro State (Colo.) and Augustana (SD).
The top two individuals from non-qualifying teams to advance to
nationals are Niciase Kazingo (New Mexico Highlands) and Tanner Fruit
(Nebraska-Kearney).
The Huskies are coached by 11th-year head coach Seth Mischke, and assisted by Mohamed Aden and Travis Hoover.
