Bemidji, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men’s cross country team placed fourth (118 points) at the 2009 NSIC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 24, while the Husky women’s squad finished in 7th place (180 points) at the Greenwood Golf Course in Bemidji, Minn.
Sophomore runner Kyle Neumann gained All-NSIC Fist Team honors, leading the Huskies with a seventh place finish in a time of 26:15.1, which marked a personal best time for the Andover native in 2009. Neumann becomes just the second runner in school history to gain All-NSIC First Team honors, as last year SCSU’s Hady Cherif placed 10th at the 2008 NSIC Championships to gain the accolade.
Dan Allen (Waite Park) was the second Husky to cross the finish line, placing 15th in a time of 26:41.3, which landed Allen on the All-NSIC Second Team. Allen bettered his previous race’s time by over 35 seconds to gain the NSIC nod. Shamus O’Grady (Coon Rapids) placed 27:18.8 for 28th place, Hady Cherif (Minneapolis) finished in 29th place (27:23.3) and sophomore Luke Jordan (Maple Plain) finished in 39th place (27:42.9).
The final two Huskies to compete today were Jared Hicks, a first year from Spearfish, S.D., and Sean Gaskell, a sophomore from Esko. Hicks crossed the finish line in 44th place (27:52.5) while Gaskell placed 46th with a time of 27:57.5.
Of note, three SCSU men runners tabbed personal best times today at the NSIC Championships.

St. Cloud State’s Paula Marozas (Andover) made history today for the Huskies, becoming the first female runner to land on an All-NSIC squad. The junior runner placed 19th with a time of 23:33.8, earning Marozas a spot on the All-NSIC Second Team.
Brittney Moffat (Coon Rapids) ran her best race of the season, finishing in a time of 23:51.0, good for a 25th place finish. Rookie Stacey Kern (Osakis) was the third Husky to cross the finish line, posting a 40th place finish (24:26.7), while sophomore Keely Rubash (New Lisbon, Wis.) came in fourth for SCSU in a time of 24:36.4 (44th).
Also competing for St. Cloud State today were sophomores Amanda Schilling (White Bear Lake) in 25:04.5 (52nd) and Andrea Neugebauer (Mitchell, S.D.) in 25:11.0 (54th place) while first year Hannah Sanborn (Maple Grove) placed 60th overall (25:39.5).

Augustana College took home top honors in both the men’s and women’s competition.
St. Cloud State mens’ and women’s cross country now prepares for the 2009 Division II North Central Regional race,
which is slated for Saturday, Nov. 7, in Wayne, Neb.
