St. Cloud, Minnn. -- The 2009-10 St. Cloud State women's basketball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll. Defending NCAA Division II Champions Minnesota State University, Mankato has been picked as the No. 1 team.
St. Cloud State finished the 2008-09 season as the NSIC/Sanford Health Postseason Tournament Champions and advanced to the NCAA Division II North Central Region Tournament. The Huskies posted a 22-9 overall record and finished sixth in the NSIC with a 12-8 record.
St. Cloud State junior guard Talisha Barlow (Little Canada) is a player to watch. Barlow was a NSIC All-Conference Second Team pick, NSIC/Sanford Health All-Tournament team selection, and Daktronics Central Region Second Team pick last season. She ranked sixth in the NSIC in scoring with 15.2 points per game and is sixth in field goal shooting percentage. She started all 28 games last season for the Huskies and has played in 59 straight games. She led the team in field goal shooting percentage with a mark of .504. She scored a career high 28 points against Fort Lewis in the NCAA tournament on Mar. 13 and scored in double figures 27 times during the season. She had a career high 11 rebounds against Concordia-St. Paul on Mar. 8 and opened the season with a career high seven steals on Nov. 15. Barlow has scored 785 points in her career.
St. Cloud State will open the 2009-10 season on Sunday, Nov. 15 at home against the University of Wisconsin-Stout at 2:00 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The NSIC season gets underway for the Huskies on Dec. 4 when St. Cloud State hosts Winona State at 6:00 p.m.
