2009 NSIC Champions

St. Cloud, Minn. -- St. Cloud State head women’s basketball coach Lori Fish has added two recruits to her 2008-09 class, as today she announced the signing of Jessica Benson of Grand Meadow, Minn., and Reyan Robinson of Becker, Minn., to National Letters of Intent.

Jessica Benson is a 6’0” guard from Grand Meadow High School who averaged a double double in scoring and rebounding during her senior season with 24.6 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. She also had solid averages with 4.3 steals, 3.6 assists and 80 percent free throw shooting per game. During her prep career, Benson scored 2,188 points and pulled down 1,529 rebounds. She also collected 527 steals, 492 assists, and 359 blocked shots. All of these totals put her at the top her high school career charts. Benson earned All-Conference honors five times and Academic All-Conference honors four times. She is a two-time Section and Conference Player of the Year, a two-time All-State Honorable Mention selection and an All-State team member. She served as a team captain for three years and was voted the team MVP four times. Her many other honors include KTTC Athlete of the Week, KAAL Athlete of the Week, and KFIL Player of the Game. She was named to the Class A All-Star Team and was a Miss Basketball Top 30 Candidate. In addition, she won the Minnesota Nuts & Bolts Award twice and was named to the Winona Holiday Tourney All-Tournament Team twice. Jessica is the daughter of Cray and Tracy Benson of Grand Meadow.

“Jessica had a highly decorated high school career and we are excited to see what she can do at this level,” said Coach Fish. “She has a knack for putting the ball in the basket but what I find most impressive is her career rebound totals.”

Reyan Robinson is a 6’0” guard from Becker High School. A four-year starter for the Bulldogs, Robinson earned Mississippi 8 All-Conference honors her sophomore, junior and senior year. She was named to the All-Section team as a ninth grader. Robinson was named to the St. Cloud Times All-Area Team as a Senior and was Honorable Mention as a sophomore and junior.  She was also named to the State All-Tournament team as a sophomore. Robinson averaged 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds during her senior season. She led her team in steals with 63 and was second in scoring with 291 points and rebounding with 150 points. Reyan is the daughter of Sumre and Troy Robinson of Becker.

“Reyan is a versatile player who can play the 2-3-4 positions for us,” said Fish. “She has the capability to shut people down defensively, has a great basketball IQ, and the ability to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Benson and Robinson join four others who committed to the Huskies last fall. They will join Nicole Anderson of Cannon Falls High School, Jennifer Dowd of Rogers High School, Jamie Noonan of Richfield High School, and Amanda Wagner of New Prague High School on the St. Cloud State hardcourt next year.

St. Cloud State, under the first year direction of Lori Fish, posted a 22-9 overall record in 2008-09 and finished with a 12-8 record in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Huskies won the NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament and earned automatic qualification to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament, making their 11th national tournament appearance in the history of the program.
