WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Katie Tacheny Named to State Farm Coaches' All-America Honorable Mention Team

Atlanta -- St. Cloud State senior guard Katie Tacheny (Woodbury) has been recognized as a State Farm Coaches' All-America Team Honorable Mention player for NCAA Division II. The announcement was made at the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Championship Tournament site in San Antonio, Texas by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and State Farm.
During the 2008-09 season, Tacheny led the Huskies in scoring (16.6 ppg), assists (130), steals (82), minutes (33.1), and free throw shooting percentage (.870). She was the leading scorer in the NSIC in overall games and league games (17.3 ppg). Tacheny scored her career high 31 points against Southwest Minn. State on Jan. 16 and tied the SCSU single game record of 10 steals on Dec. 30 (record originally set in 1982). Her 199 career steals ranks sixth all-time at SCSU and her 85.1 career free throw percent ranks third all-time at SCSU. She also scored in double figures 29 times in 2008-09. Tacheny transferred to SCSU from Minnesota Duluth and played three seasons for the Huskies. She was a starter in all 76 games played at SCSU.
A two-year team captain, Tacheny was a highly decorated senior as she was named to theState Farm All-Region 7 Team / All-American Finalist, Daktronics All-Central Region First Team, All-NSIC First Team, and NSIC/Sanford Health All-Tournament Team.
She helped lead the Huskies to the 2009 NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament Championship, the first conference title for SCSU since the 1989 season and the sixth in school history. The Huskies advanced to the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament for the 11th time in school history.
St. Cloud State posted a 22-9 overall record marking the tenth time in school history that SCSU has won 20 games or more in a season.
Tacheny was a two-time North Central Conference Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll team member.
A 2004 graduate of Woodbury High School, Tacheny played on four state high school basketball tournament teams and won the 2003 Class 4A championship.
