Tacheny and Barlow Named to Daktronics All-Central Region Women's Basketball Team

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Colorado Springs, Colo. -- The honors continue to roll in for St. Cloud State senior guard Katie Tacheny (Woodbury) today as she was named to the 2009 Daktronics All-Central Region First Team, a team selected by the Central Region Sports Information Directors. Sophomore guard Talisha Barlow (Little Canada) was also honored by the group being named a second team player.

This is another in a list of honors bestowed on Tacheny in the last month. Earlier this week, she was named a State Farm Coaches' All-American Basketball Team Finalist. She was named First Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) and to the NSIC/Sanford Health All-Tournament Team. She was named an NSIC Player of the Week.

Tacheny is the Huskies leading scorer this season, averaging 16.8 points per game, and is nearing the 1,000 career points mark, having scored 971 career points. She led the NSIC in scoring in 2008-09. In addition, Tacheny scored a career high 31 points on Jan. 16 against Southwest Minnesota State University and tied the single game school record for steals with 10 on Dec. 30.

Barlow ranks second in scoring and rebounding for the Huskies. She averages 14.9 points and 5.6 rebounds. This season she scored a career high 25 points against nationally ranked MSU Moorhead and just last weekend collected a career high nine rebounds in the championship game of the NSIC Tournament. Barlow is a second team All-NSIC pick and was named to the NSIC/Sanford Health All-Tournament team.

Tacheny and Barlow helped lead the Huskies to the 2009 NSIC/Sanford Health Tournament Championship, the first conference title for SCSU since the 1989 season and the sixth in school history.

Tacheny, Barlow, and their teammates are preparing for the 2009 NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament to be played March 13, 14, and 16 in Mankato, Minn. The Huskies are the seventh seed in the region and will play #2 seed Fort Lewis College in the opening round at 1:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
