Women's Basketball: St. Cloud State 72, Minot State 61
Tacheny Collects Double-Double in 72-61 Win

St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State senior guard Katie Tacheny (Woodbury) scored a career high 29 points and collected a career high and school record tying ten steals to lead the Huskies to a 72-61 non-conference win over Minot State University Tuesday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall.
The double double was the first of Tacheny’s collegiate career. She finished the game ten of 17 from the field and six of seven from the free throw line. Her previous career high in scoring was a 22-point game at Upper Iowa on Dec. 6. She now shares the single game record for steals of ten with Dawn Anderson who set the record in 1982.
With the win, St. Cloud State improved to 10-1 overall. The Huskies return to NSIC action on Jan. 3 when Concordia, St. Paul comes to St. Cloud at 2:00 p.m. Minot State is 8-6 overall and a member of the Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) and NAIA Division II.
Joining Tacheny in double figure scoring for the Huskies was sophomore post Rachel Booth (Minneapolis) with 14 points. Sophomore guard Talisha Barlow (Little Canada) added 12 points and a game high nine rebounds. The Huskies shot 44.8 percent for the game and made 17 of 18 free throws.
Minot State had four players score in double figures led by sophomore guard Whitney Loftesnes with 17 points. She made four three-point baskets for the Beavers. Senior post Holly Silverling added 12 points while junior post MacKenzie Mack and junior guard Hatti Ternes each had 11 points. The Beavers were hampered by 31 turnovers, but out rebounded the Huskies 32-20. In addition, Minot State shot 51.9 percent in the second half.
A three-point basket by Minot State’s Whitney Loftesnes put the Beavers within one point of the Huskies, 9-8 at the 13:53 mark of the first half. St. Cloud State responded with an 11-3 run that gave the Huskies a 20-11 lead midway through the half. That run included five points from senior guard Katie Tacheny who went on to score 20 first half points. Tacheny, along with sophomore post Rachel Booth who scored ten first half points accounted for two-thirds of the Huskies first half scoring, as St. Cloud State led 45-26 at the intermission. St. Cloud State shot an impressive 58.6 percent from the field in the half and made eight of eight from the free throw line. Loftesnes scored nine first half points to lead the Beavers who shot 39.1 percent from the field.
Minot State challenged the Huskies in the second half as their shooting improved. The Beavers closed to within ten points, 55-45 at the 12:01 mark on a three by Loftesnes. Later, at the 7:12 mark, Minot pulled to within ten again on a three-point basket from Hattie Ternes. The Huskies kept the Beavers. In the final six minutes of the game, the Huskies went six of six from the free throw line and Barlow finished out the scoring with back to back layups.
