St. Cloud State Posts 107-58 Win Over Dakota State

St. Cloud, Minn. –  The St. Cloud State women’s basketball team led from start to finish and posted a 107-58 non-conference win over Dakota State University Monday night at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies improved to 9-1 overall and Dakota State dropped to 4-8 overall.

Seven St. Cloud State players scored in double figures in the game, led by senior guard Krystal Scott (Rosemount) with a career high 16 points. Sophomore guard Talisha Barlow (Little Canada) produced the second double-double of her collegiate career with 15 points and ten rebounds. First year forward Aaryn Booker (Minneapolis) scored 14 points on seven of eight field goal attempts. Senior guard Katie Tacheny (Woodbury) added 12 points and a game high five steals.  First year guard Becca Friestleben scored a career high 12 points making four of six three point attempts and dished out a career high five assists. First year post Christina Steele (Apple Valley) also scored a career high with 11 points, and finally sophomore post Rachel Booth (Minneapolis) notched ten points and five rebounds in the win. Senior guard Anna Cashman (Faribault) had eight assists to go with her eight points. St. Cloud State shot 60.6 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range. The Huskies out rebounded the Lady T’s 42-28 and forced Dakota State into 26 turnovers.

Dakota State had three players score in double figures. They were led by sophomore guard Katie Bourk with 16 points. Sophomore guard Megan Swecker of nearby Sauk Rapids scored 13 points and junior center Dayna Tschakert had ten points and seven rebounds. The Lady T’s shot 36.4 percent from the field.

The 107 points scored by the Huskies marked the second 100 point game of the season and the first time since the 2006-06 season that SCSU had scored 100 or more points twice in a season. The school record for points scored in a game is 123 scored against Morningside College during the 1998-99 season.

St. Cloud State scored eight quick points to open the game forcing Dakota State to call a timeout at the 18:14 mark. The Huskies increased the lead to 15-0 and Dakota State got on the scoreboard at the 16 minute mark when Mollie Merriam hit a three for the Lady T’s. Midway through the first half, St. Cloud State led 30-10 and was shooting 59.1 percent from the field and 80 percent (four of five) from three point range. St. Cloud State led at the half 64-23. The Huskies had three players reach double figure scoring in the first half , led by Krystal Scott with 16 points, surpassing her career high of 14.  St. Cloud State shot 60.5 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range in the first half. The Huskies only committed five turnovers in the half while forcing Dakota State to turn the ball over 18 times.

Dakota State shot better from the field in the second half but the Lady T’s were not able to gain ground over the Huskies. The closest DSU got to the Huskies was 66-30 following a three-point basket by Katie Bourk at the 17:38 mark.

St. Cloud State will resume non-conference action on Dec. 30 when the Huskies will host Minot State University at 4:00 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
