Booth Leads Huskies to 73-55 Win at UNO Thanksgiving Tournament

Omaha, Nebraska – St. Cloud State sophomore post Rachel Booth (Minneapolis) scored a season and game high 19 points to lead the Huskies to a 73-55 win over Northwest Missouri State University Friday afternoon at the UNO Thanksgiving Tournament.

The Huskies are 4-0 on the season, marking the best start since 2005-06 when St. Cloud State knocked off a 17-game win streak to start the season. Northwest Missouri  State, a team that received votes in this week’s USA Today ESPN WBCA Top 25 Division II Coaches Poll, dropped to 3-2 overall.

Booth finished the game with 19 points, six rebounds , four steals and two blocks. She made seven of ten field goal attempts in the game and was five of six from the free throw line. Senior guards Katie Tacheny (Woodbury) and Krystal Scott (Rosemount) each scored 11 points for the Huskies. Senior guard Anna Cashman (Faribault) made two of four three point baskets and finished the game with nine points. The Huskies shot 40.4 percent from the field and had a 36-34 rebounding edge.

Northwest Missouri  State also had three players score in double figures led by Rickeya McElroy with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Shelly Martin scored 12 points and Meghan Brue added 11 points. The Bearcats committed 25 turnovers in the game and shot 38.3 percent from the field

The Huskies and Bearcats were tied 7-7 four minutes into the first half. Back to back layups by sophomore post Rachel Booth (Minneapolis) at the 12 minute mark gave the Huskies a 14-11 lead and St. Cloud State continued to increase its lead to 35-26 at half-time.

St. Cloud State opened the second half on a 9-2 run and led 44-28 after a layup by first year forward Aaryn Booker (Minneapolis) five minutes into the half. St. Cloud increased the lead to as many as 24 points late in the second half on the way to the victory.

The Huskies will play the University of Nebraska-Omaha at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
