Huskies Explode For 94 Points In Lori Fish’s Debut

Barlow leads Huskies in 94 point outburst

Sophomore Talisha Barlow poured in 22 points as the Huskies opened the season with a 94-39 win over visiting UW-Oshkosh.

St. Cloud, Minn. – New head coach Lori Fish and the St. Cloud State women’s basketball team opened the 2008-09 season with a bang this evening (Nov. 15) as they erupted for 94 points in a 94-39 rout of visiting Wisconsin-Oshkosh.  The Huskies opened the game on a 23-0 run over the first 9:36 of play before the Titans could even get on the board. 

SCSU outscored UW-Oshkosh 47-21 in the first half and 47-18 in the second half en route to the win.  Talisha Barlow (Little Canada, Minn.) led all scorers with 22 points on 10-15 shooting and added eight rebounds and a career high seven steals.  In all the Huskies tallied 19 takeaways, which coupled with 36 Titan turnovers, turned into a whopping 55 points.

Katie Tacheny (Woodbury, Minn.) tied her career high with 18 points on the night, and added six steals of her own, also tying her career high.  The final Husky in double figures was Rachel Booth (Minneapolis, Minn.) who pitched in 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. 

A quartet of SCSU newcomers got there first taste of action in the Cardinal and Black tonight as Aaryn Booker (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored nine points, Christina Steele (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored eight, and Becca Friestleben (Victoria, Minn.) and Marlayna Graff (Harris, Minn.) each added six in their Husky debut. 

All 11 players saw time on the court and nine of them found the bottom of the net as St. Cloud State recorded their highest point total since the 2006-07 season when they bettered Mayville state 107-69 on Dec. 20, 2006. 

SCSU shot 52% for the game while holding UW-Oshkosh to just 30% in the contest.  SCSU will resume action next weekend for a pair of games in the Minnesota State Tournament.  On Nov. 21 SCSU will take on Henderson State at 1:00 pm, and on Nov. 22 they will play Dakota State, also at 1:00 pm.  The Huskies start the season 1-0 for the fourth time in the last five years.
