Lori UlfertsHead Women's Basketball Coach

The 2006-2007 season marks Dr. Lori Ulfert's 13th season as head coach of the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team.

Through twelve seasons at SCSU, Ulferts has compiled a 191-150 record. This season marks her 22nd overall as a collegiate coach, in which time she has amassed a 21-year career won/loss record of 343-239.

This past season, in 2005-2006, Ulferts led the Huskies to a 29-5 overall record. After winning the 2006 North Central Regional title, the Huskies returned to the 2006 Division II NCAA Elite Eight for the second straight season and advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history.

The 2004-05 season marked several career milestones for Dr. Ulferts.  The seasoned coach gained her 300th career win on December 19, 2004 with a victory over the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Ulferts also guided her team to a 2005 North Central Region Championship title and a berth at the NCAA Elite Eight Tournament.  This marked St. Cloud's first Elite Eight trip under Coach Ulferts; the last time the Huskies made it to this level was in 1988-89.

Resurrecting and rebuilding programs, has been the trademark of Lori Ulferts' collegiate coaching career.  After re-establishing the programs at Minnesota-Crookston and Moorhead State, Ulferts accepted  another rebuilding project at SCSU in 1994. The Huskies had just finished the 1993 season with a 2-24 record. In Ulferts second season, she guided the Huskies to a 14-13 record, their first winning season in five years.  The Huskies suffered growing pains with an 8-19 record in 1996-97. In 1997-98 SCSU rebounded to post a 13-14 overall record and finished sixth in the NCC. The fourth place NCC finish in 2000-01 was the best for the Huskies in Ulferts' eight years with the program. That's  a major accomplishment considering the Huskies had not placed in the upper division since 1989-90.

Ulferts grew up in Warren, Minn., and attended the University of  North Dakota where she lettered in basketball, volleyball, softball, and field hockey.  Ulferts graduated from UND in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in physical education.   After coaching for one season at the high school level, she became a graduate assistant coach and received her master's degree from Frostburg State University in Maryland.  Ulferts then spent a season in London, England, where she coached the West London Institute of Higher Education team to a third place finish in the British College Championships.

Ulferts returned to the states and took over the head basketball coaching position at the University of Minnesota-Crookston.  She posted four winning seasons, including a 23-4 finish in 1987-88, and an impressive 71-27 overall record. Ulferts was named Minnesota Community College Conference Coach of the Year in 1987 and '88.

In 1989, Ulferts took over the head coaching job at Moorhead State.  There she posted a five-year 87-62 overall record including a 23-7 record in 1991-92.  Ulferts was a two-time Northern Sun Conference Coach of the Year winner in 1992 and 1993.

In addition to her responsibilities as head coach at SCSU, Ulferts, who also earned her doctorate in educational administration from the University of North Dakota, teaches in the physical education and recreation, sports science department.

Ulferts and her husband Kyle reside in St. Cloud, along with their son Jay and daughter Jill.
