MEN’S BASKETBALL: Huskies Second in the Nation in Attendance

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men’s basketball team finished the 2008-09 season second in Division II in attendance.
The Huskies averaged 3,316 fans per game, and were behind only Northern State who led the nation for a second straight season, averaging 4,735 fans per game. The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference was well represented among the National leaders with four teams in the top-10. Augustana was seventh at 2,641 fans per game, and Southwest Minnesota was ninth at 2,435 per game.
As a league, the NSIC finished second in the country in average attendance, with 1,700 fans per game throughout the conference. The NSIC was behind only the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association, who narrowly claimed the top spot at 1,707 fans per game.
Some of the highest attended games for the Huskies this season were some of the most memorable. Nearly 4,000 fans watched SCSU beat Bemidji State on Feb. 7 as Kevin Schlagel tied the record for coaching wins, and on Feb. 28, over 4,500 Husky faithful packed the Halenbeck Hall stands in the Red-Out as SCSU upset #20 Winona State.
