Husky Basketball Falls to Chico State, 74-49

Chico, Calif. – Chico State, the host of the Carl’s Jr. Mac Martin Tournament spoiled the St. Cloud State men’s basketball west coast trip by defeating the Huskies 74-49 Saturday night. The loss was the second straight for the Huskies who dropped to 3-2 overall. The Wildcats won their second game of the season and are 2-4 overall. St. Cloud State lost to Humboldt State 91-86 on Friday night.
Chico State was led by senior forward Andy Bocian with a game high 35 points on 11 of 20 shooting from the field, including five three-point field goals and eight of eight shooting from the free throw line. He also pulled down six rebounds. Bocian scored 12 of the Wildcats first 13 points of the game. Sophomore forward Roderick Hawkins chipped in 13 points and a game high seven rebounds for Chico State.
The Wildcats shot 44.6 percent from the field and went to the free throw line 21 times and converted on 81 percent from the charity stripe. In addition, the Wildcats out rebounded the Huskies 36-28.
St. Cloud State was led by junior center Matt Schneck (Whitefish Bay, WI) with 14 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Mahmoud Abdelfattah (Chicago, IL) scored a season and career high 11 points in the game. Sophomore forward Jesse Fisher (Pequot Lakes) added ten points for the Huskies. St. Cloud State was hindered by 20 turnovers and two of 16 shooting from three-point range. The Huskies shot 43.4 percent from the field and attempted four free throws.
A Jesse Fisher jumper gave the Huskies a brief 10-9 lead in the first half at the 12:31 mark but Chico State pulled away from St. Cloud State and led 31-22 at the half. The Huskies would close the Chico State lead to seven points at the 12:28 mark of the second half when Mahmoud Abdelfattah nailed a jumper to make the score 41-34.
St. Cloud State will open the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) race next weekend on the road, playing at Winona State on Friday and Upper Iowa on Saturday.
