MEN'S BASKETBALL: Huskies Ranked Tenth in The Sporting News Pre-Season Poll, Schneck a Pre-Season All-American

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The first NCAA Division II men’s basketball pre-season poll is out and The Sporting News has picked St. Cloud State as the tenth-ranked team in its annual NCAA Division II preview. In additon, senior center Matt Schneck (Whitefish Bay, WI) has been named an Honorable Mention Pre-Season All-American.
Bellarmine University was selected as the number one pre-season team. St. Cloud State posted a 22-9 overall record last season and won the NSIC/Sanford Health Postseason Tournament, and automatically qualified for the NCAA tournament. The Huskies made their sixth NCAA tournament appearance since 2000 and 11th overall.
St. Cloud State returns four starters from a year ago including Schneck who averaged 14.0 points and a team high 7.7 rebounds per game. He was a 57 percent shooter from the field. Schneck was named to the NSIC/Sanford Health All-Tournament team and to the NSIC All-Academic team. This is the second straight year that Schneck has been named to an All-American pre-season team. Last year he was named an Honorable Mention Pre-Season All-American by Street & Smith.
St. Cloud State will open the 2009-10 season as host of the Radisson Suite St. Cloud Hoopster Classic on Nov. 20-21. The Huskies will open the Classic against local rival St. John’s University at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.
