2009-10: Only Husky player to start and play in all 35 games...only player on the team to play over 1,000 minutes (1,120)...averaged 16.7 points a game and scored 583 total points (7th most in school history)...had a team-high 39 steals...grabbed 88 rebounds to average 2.5 a game...took a team-high 430 shots from the field, making 49.8 percent of the shots...made 54-of-152 three pointers to finish at 35.5 percent from beyond the arc...second on the team with 229 free throws attempted...made 81.78 percent of his shots from the charity stripe (187-of-229)...became the 34th player in school history to score 1,000 points in a career vs. Winona State, Feb. 27...currently has 1,186 points in his career, which is good for 23rd on the all-time list...ended the season passing his brother Forest to become 10th on the all-time assist charts at SCSU with 355...led the team in assists (166) and minutes played (1120)...the 166 assists tied for the 10th best assist season in school history...finished the season 52nd in the country with a 4.74 assist per game average...dished out a career-high 10 assists, grabbed a season-high six rebounds and recorded the first double-double of his career vs. Cardinal Stritch, Dec. 17...dished out nine assists and recorded two blocks vs. Wayne State, Jan. 29...had back-to-back nine assist games vs. Wayne State and Augustana...8-for-8 from the free throw line vs. Minnesota Duluth, Feb. 5...played all 40 minutes and had a career-high five steals vs. Southwest Minnesota State, Feb. 12...tied a career-high with 10 assists in the NSIC Tournament Championship game vs. Wayne State, Feb. 6...named by the coaches to the All-NSIC First Team...named to the NSIC All-Tournament team...made two free throws with 2.3 seconds left in game to help win the Huskies' second straight NSIC tournament title...scored a career-high 43 points and made a school record 22 free throws in the Elite Eight vs. Midwestern State University, Feb. 24...the 43-point performance was the fourth highest scoring total in a NCAA Tournament game and the 22 free throws made and 23 free throws attempted were NCAA tournament records…he also set the school record with 22 free throws made in the game and it was the third most points ever scored in a single game by a Husky...named to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament team…named to the Central Region All-District First Team.
2008-09: Sophomore season…named second team All-Central District by the NABC…named first team All-NSIC…NSIC/Sanford Health Men’s Basketball Tournament MVP…averaged 24.0 points per game in the tournament including 29.5 ppg in the semifinals and finals…named NSIC Player-of-the-Week on Feb. 2 after averaging 21.0 points and 7.5 assists per game as the Huskies posted a 2-0 weekend on the road…played in and started all 31 games…one of six players to play in each game and only player to start in each game…scored in all but one contest…played a team high 966 minutes and 31.2 minutes per game…only player over 900 minutes…scored a team high 15.9 points per game…led team in free throws made and attempted going 126-of-159 (.792) on the
season…led in three-pointers made and attempted with a .361 (52-of-144) mark for the year…three-point mark of .361 was third among regulars…in conference games only, finished tied for the NSIC assist title at 5.75 per game…also in league games only finished seventh in the NSIC scoring (15.5 ppg), 8th in assist/turnover ratio (1.46), 8th in minutes played (32.30 mpg), 11th in free throw percentage (.826), 15th in three-pointers made (1.50 3pg), and 26th in steals (1.30 spg)…in all games finished seventh in the NSIC in scoring at 15.9 ppg and second in assists at 5.19 apg…also on all games ranked 7th in the NSIC in assist/turnover ratio (1.44), 10th in minutes played (31.16 mpg), 11th in steals (1.26 spg) and 12th in three-pointers made (1.68 3pg) … leading sophomore scorer in the conference … scored career high 30 points twice on the year, first on Jan. 31 at Augustana, and next on Mar. 3 vs. Minnesota State in the NSIC Tournament Championship game win…one of only three players in the conference to score 30 points twice this season…scored 29 points in the NSIC Tourney semifinals on Mar. 7…made a career high seven three-pointers on Nov. 15 in the season opener against Metro State scoring 27 points…197 three-point attempts in 20th all-time…scored 20+ points in 10 games…led the Huskies in scoring in a team high 16 games, including one stretch of four straight…tallied a career high nine assists on Dec. 5 against Winona State and would match the mark three more times on Jan. 17, Jan. 31, and Feb. 21…Huskies won all four games…also fouled out for the first and only career time on Dec. 5…led the Huskies in assists in 25 games…has 189 career assists which is 20th in team history…career average of 3.2 assists per game is 11th all-time…led SCSU in rebounds with a career high seven in the season finale on Feb. 28…was second on the team with 39 steals on the season and led SCSU in seven games, including a career high five on Jan. 10…SCSU 2008-09 single game highs included 30 points (Jan. 31, Mar. 8), 20 field goal attempts (Mar. 7, Mar. 8), seven three-pointers (Nov. 15), 16 free throws made (Feb. 28), 18 free throws attempted (Feb. 28), and nine assists (Dec. 5, Jan. 17, Jan. 31, Feb. 21)…16 free throws made on Feb. 28 was also a NSIC season high…one of 14 players in the NSIC to go 8-for-8 or better from the line in a single game (8-for-8, Feb. 6).
2007-08: First year...appeared in all 28 games while starting one...played 11.8 minutes/game...totals included 4.0 points/game, 1.1 rebounds/game, 28 assists, and 14 steals...shot .427 (41-96) from the field, .340 (18-53) from behind the arc and .786 (11-14) from the line...led SCSU first years in free throw shooting and games played...scored in double figures four times including 13 point effort in first career game, 86-61 season opening win over Bemidji State at home on 11/16...scored career high 18 on 1/22 in 88-71 home win over MSU Moorhead that stopped a brief two game losing skid...all four of his double digit efforts came in Halenbeck Hall...grabbed career high five rebounds in 68-82 road loss to Southwest Minnesota State on 12/20...twice dished out a career high four assists with the last coming in the 82-56 home win over St. John’s University on 12/8...earned first career start on 2/2 on the road at Nebraska-Omaha, played 20 minutes and scored six points including a 2-2 tally at the free throw line in the 76-93 loss...played career high 25 minutes on 12/5 scoring 11 points in 72-49 home win over Upper Iowa.
Prior to SCSU: 2007 graduate of Morris High School where he participated in five sports, including basketball, football, baseball, track and golf...three-year letterwinner in basketball...averaged 20.0 points per game during his sophomore and junior seasons...as a senior he average 19.6 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game...scored over 1,000 points during his prep career...81 percent free throw shooter and 38 percent from three-point range...Honorable Mention All-State...holds school record for three-point baskets in a career and is third in all-time scoring...three-year letterwinner in football...named conference MVP and All-State in football...a high school quarterback, Witt threw for 3,400 yards in his career...he ranks second in Minnesota history for passing yards in a single season.
Personal: Born July 12, 1988...High School Honor Roll Student...younger brother of former Husky Forrest Witt who played for SCSU from 1999 to 2003...son of Holly and Jerry Witt of Morris...majoring in statistics with a minor in mathematics.
